SLAVE QUARTERS

Photographic stereo view of blacks sitting outside slave quarters, on an unmarked mount; images rather faded but details still visible. Np, 1860s Early ink notation on the verso of the mount titles the image "Negro Quarters on Plantation." Image shows a row of about a dozen cabins with a black family sitting in the front of each. The photograph was probably taken shortly after the War. An example of this stereo view was dated 1861-63 in the "Picturing the South" exhibition held at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.
