(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION--DOUGLASS, FREDERICK.) The North Star, Vol. III, No 6, February 1, 1850.

(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION--DOUGLASS, FREDERICK.) The North Star, Vol. III, No 6, February 1, 1850. Large bi-folium, four pages; creased with a few small holes at the intersection of the folds; several short, closed tears to the outer margin; inked name (Tabitha ?) of the original subscriber at the top margin, barely legible. Rochester, 1850

  • Notes: Frederick Douglass ran the North Star as a weekly for the period of 1847 to 1851, then changed to a slightly smaller format with the name, "Frederick Douglass's Paper." The present is a very important issue of the paper, printing Charles Sumner's argument in favor of the de-segregation of the Smith Street School and the Boston Public School System. William C. Nell and other prominent black Bostonians had been fighting for this for over a year.
  • Condition: All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues.
