London, 24 April 1813 E200/300 Stanhope (1753-1816) Third Earl of Stanhope, political leader and scientist, mar-ried William Pitt's sister, argued for a discontinuanceof the American Revolution, supported the French republicans during the French Revolution, invented a mono-chord for tuning instruments and the first hand-operated iron printing press, perfected a stereotype process, constructed calculating machines and a microscopiclens. Lancaster (1778-1838) English educator who founded a free elementary school under a monitorial system.
