STORY, JOSEPH. Autograph Letter Signed, to John McDonogh, concern-ing African colonization. 1 page, folded 4to sheet with integral address leaf; usual folds, hole in address leaf from opening, light toning, hinged to a larger sheet. Cambridge, 8 May 1843 E400/600 "I return you my sincere thanks for the very valuable & interesting pamphlet on African Colonization which you have been so obliging as to send to me.I confess that it has for the first time brought to my view as Experimentally practical, & eminently successful by which the rights of the Master & the interests of the Slave may be promoted & protectedfor the benefit of both. Whether the Experiment would or could be as successful in the hands of the public generally or of the numerous planters is a problem which I have no adequate means to solve. But I shall most sincerely rejoice to know that your Example, so full of benevolence & wisdom, has many followers . . ."
