AGREEING TO CONDUCT HOLLYWOOD BOWL ORCHESTRA IN 1952 STRAVINSKY, IGOR. Two items: Autograph Letter Signed, agreeing to conduct the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra * Typed Document Signed, addendum to contract for Hollywood Bowl concert. The letter, to Hollywood Bowl Association Manager Ray W. Smith, repeating the terms of the agreement and informing him that his son Soulima is available to perform as well. 1 page, 4to, personal stationery; receipt ink stamp at upper right, punch and staple holes along upper edge, folds. With the original envelope. The document, permitting the broadcasting of the concert by NBC and the Armed Forces Radio Service. Countersigned by Ray W. Smith. 1 page, 4to; staple holes along upper edge, minor staining in upper margin, horizontal folds. Hollywood, 19 April 1952; Np, [April 1952]

  • Notes: ". . . I am in agreement with you to conduct the Hollywood Bowl orchestra on Tuesday evening August 12, 1952, at a fee of $1,500 with two rehearsals Monday and Tuesday of that week of 2 1/2 hours each. . . ."

    --a small group of documents relating to the concert, including 5 retained copies of letters from Hollywood Bowl administrators to Stravinsky, copies of a pair of internal memos, and a copy of Stravinsky's payment receipt. Together 8 pages, 4to or oblong 8vo. [Los Angeles], 9 April-1 September 1952.
    On August 12, 1952, Stravinsky conducted the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra performing his work, "Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra," with his son, Soulima, as solo pianist.
