Oblong folio, original roan-backed boards with printed paper cover label, joints starting, large stain on front cover; light to moderate foxing throughout, plate 40 loose, with blank margin trimmed, lacks errata slip. Philadelphia, 1826 Impressive early American work on civil engineering resulting from the author's trip to Great Britain to report back to the Pennsylvania Society on English engineering projects, particularly the construction of canals, roads, railways, and bridges. Strickland (1787-1854), an architect and engineer, "... is remembered as an outstanding exponent of the Greek Revival in America" (DAB). A separately issued volume of explanatory text for the above work is not present.
