Autograph Letter Signed, "M.VanBuren," as President, to his Attorney General Benjamin Franklin Butler ("My dear Sir"), concerning a dispute with [Thomas Worth?] Olcott involving a $5,000 note and payment of his own debt. 1 page, 4to; docketing on verso, folds; matted with portrait and framed.   • Notes: ". . . I hope you will be able to satisfy Mr. Olcott but he ought to give up the $5,000 note. According to Charles' account of the matter his security is abundant, & as I am very anxious to get my name out of Bank, I have with that view paid off my debt. I think he ought to gratify my, if he can do so with safety. . . ."
