Artfully hand-colored albumen prints, 3 3/4x11 inches (22.2x27.9 cm.), each with a caption and inventory number in the negative. Oblong folio, decorative wood covers, detached. Circa 1880

- Notes: A selective series of historic and picturesque views, each delicately hand-colored, that show different areas throughout Japan in the period shortly after the country was opened to the west. Although there are beautiful scenes of a majestic Mt. Fuji as well as other topographic views, most of the photographers's prints feature carefully-placed figures who are stoically posing before the camera.
