Collection of approximately 570 photographs documenting several different military theaters of the 20th-century, featuring 4 prints of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, 2 with Edward Steichen's penciled notations "Franklin," on verso; World War II prints chronicling American naval and aerial campaigns in the Pacific and in Europe as well as a group of prints depicting Nazi activities; Korea; Vietnam; the Spanish Civil War and Abraham Lincoln Brigade, and Japanese control of China. Silver prints, most are 10x8 inches or the reverse (25.4x20.3 cm.) and slightly smaller, many with captions and hand stamps on verso; 18 are matted. 1930s-60s

  • Notes: Several of the photographs were in the collection of Tom Maloney, editor of "U. S. Camera," who worked with Edward Steichen, then Chief Naval Photographer, during the second World War. with--A copy of an address President Roosevelt delivered on Oct. 21, 1944 before the Foreign Policy Association, with "CONFIDENTIAL, CARE MUST BE EXERCISED TO PREVENT PREMATURE PUBLICATION" printed throughout the first page, in which he discusses the threat of Hitler and Hirohito and how "national security does not end at our borders."
