WILDER, THORNTON. Autograph Letter Signed
HIGHER ED FOR THE HARD-BOILED WILDER, THORNTON. Autograph Letter Signed to Jay L. Bradley, Signed "Ever, Tho." 4 pages, 8vo; on Grand Hotel Quisisana stationery. With original envelope. Capri, 28 October 1926
- Notes: Wilder discusses the trip he''s made to Europe as a chaperone / tutor to a young man named Andrew Townson. To Wilder''s distress, the boy was little interested in study or sightseeing. Discussing the pros and cons of attending college as it pertains to pursuing a career in writing, he writes: "I talked over your letter with Ernest Hemingway in Paris--he never went to college and did do years of journalism--and he feels that college would be best for any but a certain type of hard-boiled, very self-sure writer like himself."
