Purchased from the artist by art historian James
Amos Porter in 1934. Leslie Garland Bolling
(1898-1955) was known for his wood sculp-
tural works. Bolling often painted his
sculptures, but this piece and one other that we
have handled were left unpainted with their
warm, natural patina. Provenance: Estate of
James Amos and Dorothy Porter Wesley.
