Moses Dickson (1824-1901)

was born free in Cincinnati. After a trip through the South in 1833 he dedicated the rest of his life to

ending slavery. To that end, he and a group of eleven other men founded the Order of Twelve in

1846, which was eventually absorbed by the Prince Hall lodge.
