Lancaster, 26 March 1836

[1,200/1,800]

I received your letter with my appointment yesterday with great satisfaction.

The letter which you wrote instructing me as to the letter to be written to Hon. L[ewis] Cass

required the assistance of Mr. Resse who has not yet returned from the city nor is he expected before

two or three weeks until which time I suspect I must delay writing, yet the notification observes that I

must immediately inform them of my acceptance or nonacceptance of the conditions mentioned in the

appointment however if I inform them in two weeks it will do, I suppose.

I have informed my mother and Elizabeth of my appointment—they both appeared agreed. . . .”
