(AVIATORS.) EARHART, AMELIA. Autograph Letter Signed, “AmeliaMEarhart,”

to “My dear Miss Sargent,” explaining that she had taken up social work while pursuing

aviation and stating that she sometimes longs to visit NewYork City. 2 pages, 8vo, written

on the recto and verso of a single sheet, “Denison House” stationery; some fading to text

and signature (but quite legible), horizontal folds.

Boston, 27 December 1927

[1,000/2,000]

. . . How long ago we were together in N.Y.!

I see by your address you are in Mt.Vernon. My sister almost accepted a position not far away from

there and I thought of you while she was considering it.

As you see by my address I am living in town doing social settlement work. I find it as absorbing as

teaching and even more occupying.

I have charge of the girls activities and do some adult work beside. And I can’t let aviation drop

despite the heavy program.

. . . I envy you, being near NewYork City and sometimes wish I could get away from here to go thence.

May the best joys that Allah can concoct be yours this year.”
