Henry Lamb was known for his portraiture, especially of his fellow members of the Bloomsbury group. Lady Ottoline Morrell was closely associated with and often hosted the group at her home. Morrell was a flamboyant amateur photographer, designer, and patron, who rebelled against her class and position. She was the daughter of Lieutenant-General Arthur Bentinck and half-sister to the Duke of Portland. In 1902 she married Philip Morrell, a Liberal Member of Parliament and their home became a gathering place for notable writers, artists, and philosophers. She had a profound effect on her circle, and became the lover of Bertrand Russell and a close friend of T.S. Eliot. Morrell may have also had romantic relationships with Virginia Woolf, Augustus John, and Henry Lamb.
