inscribed “no. 5” in pencil, lower margin. A superb, dark impression of this extremely
scarce lithograph, with strong contrasts.
This is one of several small lithographs representing groups of peasant women resting or
working out-of-doors that Pissarro made in the late 1890s (see following lot). In each of
these intimate lithographic scenes he captured the sunlight falling across the figures, the
verdant landscape and the billowing clouds in the sky, emulating his paintings from this
