inches, full margins. One of approximately only 14 or 15 known impressions of

this subject. Signed, titled and inscribed “no. 5” in pencil, lower margin. A superb, well-

inked impression of this extremely scarce lithograph.

According to Shapiro,“Near the end of his life, Pissarro made a few lithographs of modest

size executed in a delicate, calligraphic style. Using broken lines and flecks of ink in this

print, Pissarro suggests an evanescent quality of light and space that sets the entire scene

in motion. The pastoral quality of the vignette is enhanced by the greenish Ingres paper

on which the image is printed.”

Pissarro varied the papers used for the printing of this subject; there is an impression in

Cologne printed on rose-toned

Ingres appliqué

. Delteil 189.
