George Baker (1876-1965) better known as
Father Divine, was one of the 20th century’s
most successful religious cult leaders. Popular
with blacks as well as whites, Baker founded
the International Peace Movement in 1936.
His flock included such notables as New York
Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, who often sought
his counsel on many issues.
