x 13 inches, showing Warren Harding in the center,
surrounded by eight African American candidates for Senator, Representative and
Governor. Matted and framed.
Cleveland: Walter L. Brown, 1920
[2,500/3,500]
Eight oval photographic vignettes of African American political candidates from various Ohio
counties above a quote from Harding: “I want you to know that I believe in equality before the
law. That is one of the guarantees of the American Constitution. You cannot give one right to a
white man, and deny the same right to a black man.” Senator Harding at Oklahoma City,
October 9, 1920. It is ironic that one of the worst race riots in American history would take
place in Oklahoma less that a year later.
