spine worn, missing portions at top and bottom, joints and cover edges worn through, end-

papers renewed; occasional marginal soiling, scattered early underscoring and ink blots, title

heavily soiled and mounted with upper outer corner off, sidenotes almost cropped on sev-

eral leaves toward beginning, portion of blank outer margin torn off P3, conspicuous

dampstaining on last few index leaves.

of Caesar’s account of the Gallic Wars, translated by

Golding from the original Latin; state of the colophon with printer’s address “at the signe of the

Hedge- / hog.” A volume of excerpts translated from a French version was published in 1530.

author to Egidio da Viterbo and colophon. Printed in upright italic type. 4to, 216x144

mm, early limp vellum with spine title in ink, front joint partly cracked, front cover

warped, recased, endpapers renewed; margins trimmed affecting some headlines, marginal

dampstaining and soiling through much of volume, early underscoring and marginalia,

scattered repairs, worming in blank lower margin of opening leaves, title reinforced in mar-

gins. 19th-century bookplate and signature of Arthur P. Chadbourne.
