Vintage Posters

The Vintage Posters department, led by Swann President and Principal Auctioneer Nicholas D. Lowry, conducts at least four sales per year: two broad Vintage Poster auctions that encompass a range of eras and styles, and specialized sales for Rare & Important Travel Posters and for Graphic Design, which offers Modernist posters and ephemera. As the only major auction house with a department dedicated to this field, our sales have become resources for collectors and scholars alike.

Top prices include $75,000 for Champions du Monde by Adolphe Mouron Cassandre in May 2016; $300,000 for Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s Moulin Rouge in 2008; and $312,000 for Alphonse Mucha’s Ilsée Princesse de Tripoli in 2007. Important single-owner auctions include Alphonse Mucha & Masters of Art Nouveau: The Harry C. Meyerhoff Collection, 2017; The Chassaing Collection of French Art Deco Posters, 2003; The Complete Poster Works of Roger Broders, 2011; and The Julius Paul Collection of Posters, 2013.
