An uneven run of this very well put together trade magazine for the operators of African
American beauty salons. A cultural “time capsule” in that the content goes far beyond simple
hair-styles and other beauty related articles—with all sorts of “gossip” about black women in
the public eye. The 11th Anniversary issue for November, 1965 contains a spectacular fold-out
of three detachable “Style Sheets to . . . Lift out and Display in your Shop.” Beauty Trade ran
from 1954 till 1976. Danky 671.

SCARCE WESTERN UNITED STATES DIRECTORY
With great pictorial advertising for such
businesses as Bolden’s Barbecue, “none better anywhere in the U.S.A.” A good indicator of the
boom in small business and middle class progress following WWII.
